Types of Dental Implants Silver Spring, MD
Single Dental Implant
Dental implants replace tooth roots and resemble screws; they are usually made of titanium and are very sturdy and long-lasting. Dental implants allow for fixed and removable replacement teeth; they are implanted in the jawbone and fuse with the jawbone in a process called “osseointegration.” After the fusing process, abutment posts (connectors) are inserted into the anchors, and then usually, a dental crown is attached to the abutment post.
Many patients require a single dental implant. If you have enough bone mass, you will be a candidate for a single dental implant. If you do not have adequate bone mass, bone grafting may need to be considered.
Once your implant is placed, we must allow osseointegration to occur. Once this process is complete, you’ll return to our dental spa in Silver Spring, and we will attach the abutment. Finally, your dental crown will be custom-made and permanently affixed to your implant.
Single dental implants are amazing because they restore both the root and the crown, allowing you to have a stable restoration and a strong bite. You can eat all of your favorite meals and care for your teeth as usual. Single dental implants will last a lifetime, but you may need a replacement dental crown after several years.
Implant-Supported Bridge
An implant-supported bridge is a tooth replacement option when you have two or more missing teeth in a row. An implant-supported bridge may be used instead of a denture when a row of teeth must be replaced.
An implant-supported bridge restoration usually requires two implants to support the dental bridge; the bridge provides a functional and aesthetic replacement for your natural teeth.
Implant Supported Dentures
For patients with several missing teeth, implant-supported dentures made of acrylic material may be an alternative to dentures. Candidacy for implant-supported dentures depends on many factors, and Dr. Bikoi must ensure you have the bone density required to tolerate this procedure.
Implant-supported dentures may support full and partial dentures and fixed and removable dentures. If a removable denture is right for you, the denture will “snap” onto the implant rather than being held in place with adhesives, which can be messy.
Laser Implant Dentistry
Laser dentistry is non-invasive and offers patients many benefits. Using a laser in implant dentistry offers significant advantages during the implant procedure. Those benefits include:
- Less trauma with no bleeding
- After using the laser, there is a decrease in the risk of infection because the laser helps to sterilize the area being treated
- There is minimal damage to surrounding tissues due to pinpoint accuracy of lasers
- Wounds may not require sutures, shortening how long the procedure takes and healing time for the patient
- Tissue regenerates more quickly with laser dentistry, less downtime for the patient
