Invisalign® Clear Aligners
By far, the most popular clear aligner system today is Invisalign®. This revolutionary approach to straightening teeth uses clear plastic aligners instead of metal braces and wires to correct a number of orthodontics issues, including:
- Overbite
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Open bite
- Overbite
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Open bite
Even if you have none of those problems and just want straighter teeth, Invisalign® may be the perfect choice for orthodontics. Your aligners are custom-made for you based on how your teeth need to move, and every two weeks, you’ll graduate to a new set of aligners. Over time, your teeth will gradually shift into their new positions until your teeth-straightening journey is complete.
One very cool aspect of Invisalign® technology is that you will be able to see how your teeth will move before the process even starts. Our innovative technology lets you see the finished product (your stunningly straight smile) before you even get your first set of aligners.
Invisalign® Questions and Answers
We get a lot of questions about how long Invisalign® will take to deliver a perfectly straight smile, and that’s a tough one to answer. Every patient’s teeth straightening needs will be different. The length of time you’ll need to achieve your desired results depends on the severity of your orthodontic issues and your compliance with Dr. Bikoi’s instructions.
Obviously, Invisalign® aligners only work when you wear them, so if you take them out often and leave them out for extended periods of time, your treatment will take longer. If you wear them all day long and only remove them to eat and brush, they will work more quickly. For most patients, straighter smiles are achieved in 12 to 18 months.
People also ask if they’re difficult to maintain, and the answer is a resounding “No!” Simply follow your dentist’s instructions for cleaning and storing them when not in use, and they will stay clean and in good working condition. There are certain things that can damage these clear aligners, so please follow Dr. Bikoi’s instructions in the letter.
Many people ask if there’s any discomfort with Invisalign® as there is with metal braces. Just like with any orthodontic, they take some getting used to. It will take a few days for you to get used to them in your mouth. You may experience slight discomfort at first, but there is no pain, and the discomfort associated with Invisalign® is much less than with traditional metal braces.
CandidPro® Orthodontics
Your cosmetic dentist in Silver Spring also offers CandidPro® Orthodontics, another clear aligner system that straightens teeth over time much the same way that Invisalign® does.
There are some differences between the two systems, but the main difference is that CandidPro® straightens teeth in less time than Invisalign®. While that may sound ideal, not everyone is a candidate for CandidPro®. After a thorough evaluation of your teeth, Dr. Bikoi will discuss her findings with you and recommend which teeth-straightener system would be best for you.
In some cases, progress with CandidPro® may be monitored without having to visit our dental spa, but that is not always the case. Dr. Bikoi and her team will explain the differences and similarities between the two clear aligners and answer any questions you may have.
Please keep in mind that while our website is a great source of information about what we do at Artistic Family Dentistry of Silver Spring, we can’t know what is best for you until we meet you, perform a thorough evaluation, and review our findings.
